Why does food taste different on planes?

BBC wrote an informative article about why our sense of taste and smell change when we’re at 30,000 feet. Apparently, our taste buds are much less sensitive when we are facing lower atmospheric pressure and dry air. This explains why food eaten on a plane frequently taste so bland!
